Excitement and eager anticipation hang heavily in the air at MHM Academy and Center as the children awaited the arrival of their parents/guardians for the first term visiting day.
They needed little supervision to finish their morning assignments and personal studies. Smiles were generously offered by the children who ate very little to "save up space" for home made food that would be brought in by their parents and guardians. James Nyanchae a class 7 pupil said, " I love the school food here, but today mama is coming and nobody cooks better than her. She has been informed that I am performing well and she will bring my favorite dish." The sentiments were uniform across the institution.
Visiting day is slotted in the school calendar to enable the boarding children to reconnect with their families and for the parents/guardians to check on the performance and progress of their children in school. At the Academy, families sit under trees and the children whose parents visit have been taught to share their food with their friends who are not visited. This was evident as all boarders gathered under trees and joyfully traded stories and delicacies.
We have established strict guidelines on what can be brought into school on such days to bridge the financial and social disparity that exist among our children's families and ensure that every one of them feels loved and cared for. We commend the discipline and cooperation of parents and their children that continue to make this day a joyful day for everyone.
